One of the great traditions of Christmas is to exchange gifts. It shows thoughtfulness to pick out a gift for someone else. But have you ever had a bad gift exchange where someone else invested way more into the gift given to you than you invested into the gift given to them? This Christmas season we want to remember the amazing gifts that Jesus has given to us — his peace, hope, joy and life. In this message we consider how we bring Jesus our hurts and he offers us healing.

Joy is a part of life, but so is sorrow. Sometimes joy follows sorrow, but oftentimes joy and sorrow are experienced together. What Jesus offers to his followers is to take our sorrow and infuse his joy.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer said, “When Christ calls a man, he bids him to come and die.” In Luke 9, Jesus invites us to exchange death for life. By doing so, we will have made the greatest trade possible.
BROKENNESS FOR PEACE

A little over 2,000 years ago, shepherds were working in the fields one night when angels appeared to them to deliver a powerful message. Somehow, some way, this little baby would bring peace to earth and good news of great joy. How would Jesus fix our brokenness and give us peace? Through the cross. Through the most shameful, humiliating way to die.
